The cold wind in Longcheng in winter is bleak, but today’s Liuzhou Wanda Plaza is “warm as spring.” Today is the national "Adoption Day" and the first "Adoption Day" in Liuzhou. Stray animal protection organizations from Liuzhou and Guilin held an "Adopt instead of Purchase" event at Wanda Plaza.
This "Adoption Day" event is also the first to be held simultaneously in 18 cities across the country. At the event site in Liuzhou, more than a dozen cute stray cats and dogs were waiting for families who could adopt them.

It is understood that these cats and dogs were rescued from the streets of Liuzhou by volunteers from the protection organization. After examination, treatment and recovery, they were healthy and suitable for adoption, and they became as lively and cute as you see now.
There were many caring people on site conducting charity sales to raise medical expenses and breeding expenses for rescuing stray cats and dogs. Some citizens donated generously and gave a lot of money to buy one or two small items. "Think of it as giving your love," said Ms. Luo, a citizen.
This two-year-old dog Lucky was discovered by a caring person in a garage half a year ago. When it was found, its hind legs were injured, and volunteers performed surgery on it. Because Lucky also has an old injury on his front leg, there is no way to recover from surgery, so now he can only hop and walk on three legs.
Although he needs to jump to walk, Lucky is now very healthy and can be adopted by citizens. However, citizens who want to adopt these little guys must first sign an agreement with the conservation organization that rescues them.
The main conditions for adoption are: the adoptive family must be a long-term local resident; agree to regular home visits by a caring agency; have no allergies to cats and dogs; must accept some of the characteristics of cats and dogs in life and be able to take care of them responsibly; do not harm or abandon them at will.
Although the application process is strict and cumbersome, it still cannot stop citizens’ enthusiasm for adoption.
It is reported that in addition to the application process, the "lifetime return visit system" is also another more stringent adoption requirement. Volunteers from animal protection organizations will track the information of adopted cats and dogs through regular on-site visits and information collection and transmission.
Ms. Mo, a citizen, adopted Guaiguai, a stray dog rescued by the "Liuzhou Hope Home Small Animal Protection Organization" a year ago. Faced with such strict requirements from the protection organization, Ms. Mo looked at Guaiguai, who had gained a lot of weight, and said, "This is a responsible performance by the rescuers and volunteers. Any request is due to care and love. I think it is understandable." She also said that activities such as "Adoption Day" should be promoted to allow more people to pay attention and participate.
Wei Wei, the person in charge of the "Liuzhou Hope Small Animal Protection Organization" said that because there are still many people buying pets in Liuzhou, this may cause some breeders to throw away the cats and dogs used for breeding and become stray cats and dogs when they can no longer have children. Therefore, adopting instead of buying is an effective way to reduce stray cats and dogs, and can also help rescued cats and dogs find warm homes.
Today’s adoption event also includes Love Pet Hospital on-site to provide knowledge explanations and free clinics.
Wei Wei, the head of the conservation organization, also told reporters that an average of 60 stray cats and dogs are directly rescued by volunteers in Liuzhou every year, and hundreds of stray cats and dogs are rescued by citizens under the guidance and help of volunteers. "Many times a photo or a piece of information can help stray cats and dogs find their owners and homes."
The reporter learned from the event site that this event was initiated by the Beijing Animal Protection Agency, and currently three cities in Guangxi, Liuzhou, Nanning, and Wuzhou, are participating. Due to adoption capacity issues, some dogs and cats waiting to be adopted in Guilin came to Liuzhou’s “Adoption Day” today. So far, all five dogs from Guilin have been applied for adoption, and three dogs and cats from Liuzhou have also been applied for adoption. Next, volunteers will go to the homes of citizens who apply to adopt these dogs to conduct home visits.
