According to the Post, former Premier League referee David Coott is suspected of producing indecent videos for children and is on trial today in Nottingham Magistrates Court. He has filed a plea innocence in court. If convicted, he could face up to one year in prison.
It is reported that David Coot, 43, from Newark, was fired by PGMOL due to a scandal last year. He was accused of producing an indecent video of a "Class A" children on January 2, 2020. "Class A" is the most serious category, involving the download, preservation or dissemination of extremely severe child sexual exploitation content.
David Coott appeared in Court No. 15 of Nottingham Magistrates Court and denied the charges after confirming his identity. He chose to hand the case over to the criminal court and to the jury, rather than the magistrate court.
prosecutor's lawyer Ben Payne said the case originated from the FA's investigation and a third party discovered suspicious conversations while inspecting Kurt's mobile phone. "Two worrying conversations seem to show Mr. Kurt's sexual interest in children," Ben Payne said.
The police then arrested David Kurt's residence and seized a Dell laptop registered under the name of PGMOL. A "Class A" video was found in the computer, which involved a 15-year-old child who had been visited on the date referred to in the indictment. Ben Penn added that the sentencing for the offence was one year in prison and said the case was suitable for trial in the Magistrates Court.
Defense attorney Fraser Williamson filed an application at the Nottingham Magistrates Court to not disclose David Coot's address, citing that he had been threatened while serving as a referee, but the application was rejected by District Judge Gillian Young. Judge Gillian Young said: "It is wrong to have any professional threats. I recognize that Mr. Kurt is currently in high regard, but he no longer serves as a referee, and I don't think he will be a threat now because of past law enforcement decisions. I do not believe there is a risk of death or serious injury."
Before leaving the Nottingham Magistrates Court, David Kurt was reminded to comply with the conditions of bail: no contact with persons under the age of 18 without approval, nor shall he live with persons under the age of 18. The court has arranged the case to be held for a pre-trial hearing at Nottingham Criminal Court on October 9, when it will decide whether to transfer the trial and further proceedings.
David Coot was fired by PGMOL in December for his derogatory remarks against former Liverpool coach Klopp in a video that was exposed and called him a "German bitch."
