The memory has entered the stage of changing north and generation. Samsung, a large-scale DRAM manufacturer, originally scheduled to be suspended for the DDR4 product production plan by the end of 2025, but as DDR4 demand is still strong and the price is rising, the suspension of production plans has been greatly changed, and production will be extended until the end of 2026.
According to Korean media "The Elec", Samsung has previously notified customers that DDR4 products are ready to withdraw, and plans to gradually stop production of 1z nanometer-process DDR4 DRAM by the end of 2025. However, people familiar with the matter revealed that because the market demand for DDR4 is still very strong, it is enough to support Samsung to make decisions to extend production. Samsung has decided to continue its production until December 2026, and the product life cycle will be extended.
Samsung's DDR4 suspension has been urgently redirected, and the reasons include that Samsung has fallen behind its competitors SK Hynix and Micron in the new industry, which has led to limited profit margins for HBM. In addition, SK Hynix and Micron have expanded HBM to scatter DDR4 production capacity. Recently, DDR4 supply has been tight and the price has risen rapidly, prompting Samsung to decide to make full use of its existing production capacity and delay the expansion of DDR4.
In addition, Samsung's 1z nanometer-process DDR4 DRAM production line has been discounted, which is conducive to cost and price competition. Continuing production of DDR4 is still worthwhile, which is also one of the reasons for Samsung's strategy adjustment.
However, people familiar with the matter said that although this will help stabilize the price increase of DDR4, it also revealed that Samsung's attack on HBM is not as smooth as expected.
DRAMeXchange statistics: as of the end of July 2025, the price of consumer-type 8Gb DDR4 reached US$3.9, a sharp increase of 50% from the end of June.
